About the event :

"Young, disabled and working." This is the vision for our young clients at Talent Match Worcestershire.

A huge Thank You for coming to our Becoming Disability Confident event on Thursday 14th September 2017. Thanks for making it such a success for everyone, especially the Talent Match young people. Sorry if you were not able to make it.

There were so many highlights from the day, here are just a few:

  • Penny Mordaunt, MP and Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work provided us with a very personal video from Westminster welcoming the guests and encouraging local employers to sign up to the government’s Disability Confident Scheme.

  • John Coxon, Disability and Work Opportunities Division, DWP presented Shaw Trust with their newly awarded Disability Confident Leader certificate and talked about the government’s vision for the scheme and their hope that it will make a substantial contribution towards getting 1 million more disabled people into work over the next 10 years. John also took the time to introduce the delegates to Access to Work and the work the government were doing to drive increased awareness and efficacy of the service.

  • Mark Hughes, Employment Engagement Advisor for Shaw Trust recounted his own, very positive and heart-warming experience working with B&M stores and how they are the perfect example of a Disability Confident supplier.

  • Peter Hull MBE, Paralympian, Gold Medal winner received a standing ovation and as he told his own journey of determination, dedication and digging really deep to get him to the top of the podium at the Barcelona Paralympics in 1992.

  • Roger Winhall from the Big Lottery told the room of the success and the impact Talent Match is having across the country and Jackie LeFevre from Magma Effect ran an afternoon workshop on the “What, where, why of confidence” making jaws drop with a “string and a polo”.

But the true heroes of the day were the Talent Match young people. Watch their stories here (opens in a new tab or window)

Daniel, who compered the whole event with perfect professionalism and poise, Lauren who bravely told the room of how Talent Match had helped her from homelessness to a job and a brighter future and to all of the other helpers on the day who made the event the success it was.
